37th Street/USC is a Metro Silver Line Station on the Harbor Transitway on the Interstate 110 (Harbor Freeway) at its overcrossing of 37th Street close to the University of Southern California. Local buses operate from Figueroa St. & Exposition Blvd. The nearby Jefferson/USC Metro Expo Line serving the Expo line is scheduled to open in January 2012. There is no direct connection between the The Expo Line station and the 37th Street/USC Metro Silver Line Station. It is the northernmost station on the Harbor transitway with buses operating on surface streets into downtown Los Angeles. The station opened on June 1996. This station is currently CLOSED DAILY between 10:00 PM - 6:00 AM as part of the Metro ExpressLanes project.

Layout

The station has two side platforms in the median of Interstate 110 (Harbor Freeway) at its overcrossing with 37th Street. The station can be accessed via stairs and elevators from 37th Street. Local buses operate from Figueroa St. & Exposition Blvd which is a 1/4 mile walk from the station.

Current developments

Station upgrade

Currently the station is being upgraded with better signage, lighting and security and CCTV. Completion is scheduled by March 2012.

Expo Line station

The nearby Expo Park/USC Metro Station is due to open soon serving the Expo Line from Downtown Los Angeles to Culver City with plans for the line to be extended to Santa Monica later.

Metro Expresslanes - nightly closure

This station is CLOSED DAILY between 10:00 P.M. - 6:00 A.M. as part of the Metro ExpressLanes project . On August 7, 2011 Caltrans began working on constructing the Metro ExpressLanes project on the 1-110 Harbor Transitway. Caltrans will install the Fastrack transponders, modify the carpool lanes, & install CCTVs on the Silver Line stations. The nightly detour takes place between 10:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.[1] The construction is expected to be complete by September 2012. [2] Given this, the Metro Silver Line stations at 37th Street, Slauson, Manchester and Rosecrans will be closed during the designated period (10:00 p.m.- 6:00 a.m.) daily. Passengers at the Harbor Freeway/I-105 will need to board the Metro Silver Line at the Figueroa street entrance of the station (street level). The Metro Silver Line stop on the freeway level of this station is closed during the detour. During the detour, between 4:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. there are shuttles which run on Figueroa Street between 7th St./Metro Center & Artesia Transit Center. The shuttles begins at Artesia Transit Center & makes stops at Figueroa/ 182nd street, Figueroa/ Rosecrans, Figueroa/ Harbor Freeway Station, Figueroa/Manchester, Figueroa/ Slauson, Figueroa/ Exposition, Figueroa/ Adams & then the regular Silver Line stops until 7th St./Metro Center where the shuttles terminate. These shuttles will not charge for the service. Passengers can use these shuttles to connect to the nearest Silver Line stop.[3] Moreover, Metro Express lines 450X, 460, & 550 will not serve the stations while the detour is in effect. Metro Express lines 450X & 550 will only stop at Figueroa/ Harbor Fwy Station while the detour occurs. Metro Express line 460 runs nonstop between Downtown Los Angeles & Norwalk during the detour. The Metro Silver Line operates from 4:15 AM until 1:45 AM Monday- Friday & 5:00 A.M.- 1:45 A.M. Saturdays/ Sundays & Holidays.
